This past weekend, some bastard spammer touting video poker plastered my Wordpress weblog with crap. Luckily, Kitten’s Friendly Comments kept it all off the weblog and waiting for moderation. Unfortunately, that means that I got a crap load of e-mails telling me that comments were waiting to be moderated.
Today, I spent some time at the Wordpress Combat Comment Spam site and making some changes. Hopefully, these will prevent some spam from ever reaching me. Specifically, I installed Laughing Lizard’s Three Strikes plugin, notified users that modertation was in use, and the hack to catch post-id spam from TechGnome (available from the Combat Spam site at the bottom)
I haven’t gotten any spam attempts since I’ve implemented these fixes, nor actual comments, so we’ll see how well they work. If you tried to leave a comment and had problems, please contact me via some other means so I can figure out why!

I feel your pain. I get the crap on my MT blog as well. First I went to comment moderation, and now I am closing comments after a few weeks. I also have all new trackback links emailed to me, and I delete the garbage.
BTW, check to see that the email address is not showing for entries. It would be nasty to leave real commenters subject to harvest.
