I have quite the container garden growing in the backyard to supplement our CSA. The first thing I planted was a cherry tomato plant for Brian. He likes them on his salads, and we’re always buying them. It’s had good sized green tomatoes for a while, but nothing’s turned red yet.
I also have a *huge* zucchini squash plant. It’s got a lot of zucchini on it, but I’m not quite sure when to pick them. They’ve reached about 4″ long, but don’t seem to be growing any longer. Everything I’ve read says to harvest them when they’re 5-6″ long, but that if you get them too late, they won’t be good. So I’m watching them every day. I’m really looking forward to having zucchini
I also have two full sized tomato plants. One is in the ground, and not flowering or fruiting, and the other is in a container and doing great. The tomatoes are still green, but they’re also still growing, and I see more on the plant each day.
Finally, we have an orange pepper plant (also for Brian’s salads), and lots of herbs for cooking. I’ve also gotten a few seedlings (catnip and purple basil) from the CSA that are now in small planters of their own.
And the best part is, I can take almost all of it with us when we move! (we might have an offer BTW)
