Snowstorms and Seattle
Sunday, my flight was scheduled to take off from Dulles airport at 1pm. It took off on time. I was truly amazed. There was almost a foot of snow at my house. I woke up early enough to take the bus to the airport, which meant I was up at 6am on a weekend. I had few hopes that the landscaping company would have plowed the parking lot to allow me to get my car out onto the main roads, but as I was walking to get the bus, the parking lot was plowed, so I turned around, got out the snow shovel and dug my car out to drive. (It’s a 1hr drive vs a 3 hour public transportation ride – I’ll drive if I can). Car dug out, I get to the main street, and it’s not plowed very well, but there’s been enough traffic on it so that my car can clear the snow (it’s a small honda civic, it can’t clear 1ft of snow). Some lady insisted on tailgaiting me out of the neighborhood streets (she’s obviously never driven in the snow nor was she listening to the traffic reports of large number of cars spun out on the highway – I got my revenge when she spun out behind me on the highway – heehee). I get onto I-270 a *major* interstate – 12 lanes – for those of you who aren’t from DC, and it’s got two lanes open in each direction – and it was only clear from traffic, not from a plow. It was perfectly driveable at a slow speed (I never left 2nd gear the entire time), until I got to the spur to get onto the beltway. This had two small tire tracks through the snow – obviously not in lanes since you could see the lane lines crossing the tire tracks under you, and a large contingent of impatient drivers behind me. I had shifted down to first gear at this point. Again, about 4 cars spun out behind me on the spur – haven’t people learned about snow and ice yet?!?!?! The beltway was decent, not perfectly clear, but decent until I got to my exit (Dulles toll road), and the exit hadn’t been plowed. but as soon as I got on the airport access road, it was perfectly clear, and the airport had the parking lots plowed and everything.
Since the airport only had one runway open, I was fully expecting my flight to be delayed, but it went out on time, and 6 hours later, I arrived in Seattle.
Seattle was fun. I got to go up to the top of the space needle, and take the underground tour. I was suprised at how easy getting a bus to downtown was. We were out by the airport (in Tukwila), and didn’t feel like paying for parking downtown. I was suprised that we could basically walk across town very easily. A much smaller downtown area than DC.
Last night about 11pm PST, we got on a plane back to DC, which arrived at 6am this morning. I had a row of three seats all to myself, so I stretched out across all three and had me a nice nap for the flight. I have since been sleeping all day
Now, getting ready to head to Chris’ for Valentine’s day goodness. Our plans are to order pizza or make dinner with his newly stocked kitchen and watch mind bending screwed up movies and play video games for the evening.

Was that an inch at your house or a foot at your house? I suspect the latter
I drive a Geo Metro so I fully understand not being able to drive in a foot of uncleared snow.
We’re expecting a blizzard in my part of Wisconsin on Thursday. Driving, on I-43 or anywhere else, is not in my plans for that day.
haha – didn’t even notice that! It was a foot
It’s pretty much all gone now.
