Running, and Running…
This weekend, I moved up to week 3 of the couch to 5K. I don’t think I’ve ever run that much in my life. I can’t believe I actually managed to run for 3 minutes without having to stop. Go me! My lungs were complaining however – they were not happy campers. I’m pretty sure I was getting enough oxygen though since I didn’t feel faint, maybe I can improve my respritory sytem – I wonder if it’s possible for dead lung tissue to grow back.
Friday evening was miserable, and I’m not enough of a masochist to want to go out running in pouring down rain, so I went to the gym to run on the treadmill. My running pace is somewhere between 4.5 and 5 mph. I can keep 5 for a little while, but not very long, and 4.5 just seems a bit slow to me. I’m OK with taking it slow though
Sunday morning was really chilly, and at first, I wasn’t sure I’d be warm enough in just my tank top and shorts, but once I started moving, I was perfectly fine. Chris and I ran up the Rock Creek Parkway trail a bit. He even admitted that his legs were a bit sore
He runs a lot faster than I do, but maybe someday, I’ll be able to keep up with him – right now, I’m more worried about finishing and not passing out than I am about racing anyone.
Based on my progress, I think I’ll be running in the Race for the Cure in Pittsburgh on Mother’s Day. Maybe I’ll go with something earlier as well, but it’ll be chilly, and I’m not sure how many races are held in late winter.
