Solaris Network Exam

I recently returned from taking my Solaris 10 networking exam, and I’m not sure how I did. I won’t know for 6-8 weeks. Basically, I answered 158 questions, and they’re intending on taking 64-65 of those questions to “count” on the exam. I have no idea how they decide which ones to use and which ones to omit. We were able to leave comments on the questions though, so I think that they’ll take our comments into account when they decide.

As for how I felt I did – not as well as I would have liked. I was horribly unprepared for the IPfilter questions. I read all the man pages for it last night, but I had never used it. The man pages weren’t too helpful either. By the end of last night, I was able to read filter rules, but not write them as well. I wasn’t as prepared for kernel module information or esoteric commands.

Now I have to patiently wait for my pass or fail.

Why would they only grade a subset of the questions?

It’s a “beta” exam, so they’re trying to figure out good questions. More details are available at:

Although they appear to have removed the part about chosing the questions.

I think they’re doing a final weedout on the question pool.
