Another update: I finished reading Alta by Mercedes Lackey. It’s the second book in a new series about Vetch/Kiron, an Altan slave who raises his own tame dragon. The first book was Joust. I don’t know what it is about Mercedes Lackey, but I have yet to read a book of hers that I didn’t enjoy.
