What if Mozilla Were to Win?

Taken from Danese Cooper at BlogOn 2004 attending a presentation/demo from Micro$oft. Apparently, the majority of the attendees prefer some other browser to IE. Her blog says that informally all those who didn’t raise their hands were using firefox, but there were probably other browsers represented as well.

I wouldn’t mind seeing anyone “beat” IE, whether it be Opera, Mozilla, Firefox, Safari, what have you, as long as they are standards compliant and open, both things that IE is not. I don’t think Opera is open either, but it really hits the standards compliance hard.

Something Eerily like Stalking

The backstory: So, I’ve been trying to get rid of a lot of stuff around the house, and since I’ve exhausted the eBay/Amazon approach for the moment, I turned to FreeCycle, where I can give away the stuff, and have it go to a wanted home, even if I don’t get any money from it. One of the things I’ve been trying to get rid of for a while were my old Star Wars comics. About $200 worth of comics that weren’t worth selling on eBay, and no local comics stores would by them, so I listed them on Freecycle. About 20 people responded in about as many seconds. I contacted the first person to respond, and we arranged for her to come and pick them up. Kinda normal. I then posted back to the list that they were taken, and if the pickup didn’t happen, I’d repost them on the list.

4 *days* later (after I’d posted the TAKEN mail), someone from lightningpython@yahoo.com contacted me, asking about the comics. OK, s/he gets the digest, so I just ignore him. S/he sends another message that evening, I reply to this one nicely saying that the comics were taken last Thursday. S/he e-mails me two times between, both e-mails asking about the comics, and when s/he can pick them up. I just ignore those, but at this point, I’m getting a little tired of this guy.

This morning, I have a mail from them, asking if they’re taken yet again! Now, I’m really tired of this guy. I add a message to my mail server rejecting all mail from him with the 550 message: “the comics are gone – go away” I also responded with the following message:

You have been extremely rude – I posted to freecycle that they were gone, and I replied to you once, this is the last time I will reply. Your address has been banned from my mailserver. If you continue to harass me, I will report your account to yahoo.com.

Was I a bit heavy handed? I get a really funny feeling when I get e-mails from this guy, and I don’t like it. I also don’t like the fact that he won’t stop e-mailing me. I will be watching my daily mail logs seeing if he tries to contact me again. I just don’t get a good feeling about this.

Razors cause problems at DNC

This story was found through Fark and just too good to pass up.

The short of it: Gillette spent $1 million on product placement to put razors in the “welcome bags” of the attendees. Good idea, except for one small thing – you can’t take the razors through security.

My Fitness Goal for 2005 (summer)

I just want to let everyone know what I plan to do next summer so that you can keep me accountable:

I will race in a Women’s Category 4 race in the summer of 2005 and “hold my own.” And by “holding my own”, I mean that I finish the race and not get dropped.

I don’t necessarily care if I win, but I would like to at least finish. Winning would be nice :) , but I’m not expecting it.

Now, everyone check back early summer 2005 and see how I’m doing
