Friday night, Michael, Brian, and I went to Rockville Sushi. It was a small hole in the wall place in Ritchie Center off of Rockville Pike – right behind IHOP. It caters to the Korean crowd, as the signs and most of the menu were in Korean. The meals seem expensive at first, but you get a lot of food with your main dish. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki and the Futo Roll to share with Michael. The Futo roll was billed as Japanese vegetables, but it had crab meat and roe of some sort in it – needless to say, I didn’t eat any of it, and Michael didn’t really care for it either because of the crab.
While my Chicken Teriyaki was $14.95, it came with four side dishes: one looked like bok choy with some kind of hot sauce, cold zuchini, seaweed salad, and peppers, in addition to the rice, mizo soup, and salad. The salad was the typical sesame ginger dressing that you get at most Japanese restaurants, Michael can tell you more about the miso soup, as I don’t care for it, and the side dishes were “interesting”. The only one I tried was the zuchini, and I think I’ve decided that I like zuchini as long as it’s cooked and mushy.
For appetizers, we were given snow peas, and some kind of omlette with green onion in it. I didn’t eat either of these. We were also served green tea.
I did enjoy the Chicken Teriyaki, but the choice of meat left a bit to be desired. The sauce was excellent, but I kept biting into too much fat – and that really turns me off on meat.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience as much as any non-sushi eater could at a primarily sushi restaurant. There weren’t too many choices on the menu for non-fish eaters either.
