Last night, I finished reading Exile’s Honor, by Mercedes Lackey. It’s one of a string of recent Valdemar books examining some of the “other” characters mentioned in her older novels. This one happened to deal with Herald Alberich, the Karsite Weaponsmaster. It looks at his life as a Sunsguard, how he came to be chosen by Kantor, and how he learned to live in Valdemar as an exile. It’s an interesting back story, and was great reading. The book doesn’t lack any of Mercedes Lackey’s talent, and she’s still going strong. Apparently, there is a “sequel” out in hardback, but I try to not pay for hardback books, and wait out the year.
